Avoid court battles, protect what matters most, and move forward with peace of mind.
But it will save you from stress, legal bills, and emotional trauma down the road.
When you think about starting a life together, a prenup or cohabitation agreement probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. But here’s what most couples don’t realize:
In Canada, nearly 2 in 5 marriages end in divorce, often resulting in contested court battles and months – sometimes years – of emotional and financial strain¹. Whether you’re moving in together, getting married, or reassessing financial terms mid-relationship, having a clear, fair legal agreement isn’t just smart. It’s essential.
Jointly is a digital platform that empowers you and your partner to create legally valid prenups, postnups, or cohabitation agreements – together. Without expensive lawyers. Without awkward in-office visits. Without the court drama down the line. Here’s why Canadians are choosing Jointly:
Cost of a contested divorce
Cost of Jointly
Contested divorces in Canada can cost over $20,000 in legal fees alone – and that’s just the beginning.
With Jointly, you can create your own legally sound agreement for a fraction of the cost – from the comfort of your couch.
Most people avoid prenups or postnups because they seem complicated, expensive, or uncomfortable. But instead of avoiding a prenup, what if you could avoid:
Jointly was created to remove the barriers and make it easy to make an agreement. Our platform walks both partners through a step-by-step process that’s lawyer-built, secure, and designed for real-life relationships.
Our Prenup Tutorial will give you a quick run-through of what you can include in your agreement, and our Property Disclosure Worksheet helps you and your partner list and categorize your assets—clearly, calmly, and collaboratively.
Review our tutorial to get up to speed on the law in your province, and learn about what your options are in your prenup, postnup, or cohabitation agreement.
Guided prompts make conversations easier, and help you decide what to put in your agreement.
Fill out a straightforward questionnaire to create an agreement that fits your relationship. Jointly was designed by lawyers, so you can have confidence in the agreement you build together.
Fully valid in your province. No time off work. No adversarial back and forth. No surprises.
Most couples don’t realize that traditional legal agreements aren’t just expensive – they’re built on a system that assumes conflict.
Lawyer-led prenups and postnups often start with one partner hiring a lawyer alone, making the conversation feel adversarial from day one. The result? Delays, miscommunications, and costs that spiral fast.
Jointly flips the script. It’s collaborative by design – built for couples who want to protect their future together, not fight over it.
On your own time, in your own home, and in collaboration with your partner.
You and your spouse each hire your own lawyer, and meet with them separately during your work day
1 – 2 hours, self paced
2–6 weeks (plus delays coordinating between you and your lawyer)
$379, plus the cost of independent legal advice if desired or required
$3,000 – $10,000
38% of Canadian marriages end in divorce before 30 years
Legal fees for a two-day trial? $18,706. For five days? $35,950³
Most couples don’t know their rights until it’s too late
When you have a clear agreement, the law supports it - and you.
It’s for couples who believe in clarity, fairness, and taking care of each other now and in the future.
Jointly made creating a relationship agreement and prenup feel approachable and stress-free. The platform is incredibly easy to navigate and removed the usual barriers that typically stop couples from going through this process—no legal confusion, just clear, thoughtful guidance. Creating a relationship agreement (and prenup) felt like a natural, empowering conversation rather than a legal hurdle. Highly recommend to any couple wanting to start their next chapter with clarity and confidence
My partner and I are very pleased, and my lawyer was quite impressed after reviewing the agreement. He could not believe we drafted it ourselves! The different modules are extremely helpful and appropriately explained, making the process very straightforward.
My husband and I made an agreement through Jointly. The process is easy, and very straightforward. It allowed us to discuss different scenarios that we had never thought about before. I would definitely recommend Jointly to anyone!
Prenuptial, cohabitation, and marriage agreements are three different types of agreements that couples can consider, each serving a similar purpose. The reason you may choose one over the other depends on the status of your relationship. Check out this article for more information.
You can get started on our course with just a computer and an internet connection! When you’re ready to start building your agreement, you’ll need a list of all of your property and debts – but we’ve built a worksheet to help take you through that.
In most provinces, you can complete the entire process online without visiting a lawyer, although having independent legal advice on your final agreement may make it stronger. Some provinces require you to have a lawyer provide you with a certificate of independent legal advice. If that’s the case for your province, we’ll tell you that in the course.
We have built Jointly to fit as many people as possible. If you are in a relationship with only one other person and your property consists of typical asset classes (real estate, investment accounts, a small business), Jointly is a fit for you! Some examples of when Jointly is not a good fit include if you or your partner own property on a reserve, or you’re in a polyamorous relationship. Check out our screening tool to find out more about whether Jointly will work for you!
Right now, Jointly is only available to Ontario residents. Legal services in Canada are provincially regulated. We are working with legal regulators across the country to bring Jointly to as many Canadians as possible, as soon as we can! Sign up for our waitlist to be notified when we’re available in your province, or follow us on Instagram!
