At Jointly, we are committed to providing our users with exceptional services. Protecting the personal information of our users is one of our highest priorities. To ensure accountability, we have developed this Privacy Policy and have trained our staff about our policies and practices.
This Privacy Policy describes how Jointly Solutions Ltd., doing business as Jointly (“Jointly”, “we”, “us” or “our”) collects, uses, maintains, discloses and otherwise treats personal information of its users (“you”) of its website at getjointly.ca (the “Website”) and services offered by us through the Website (“Services”).
Please read the Privacy Policy carefully before you start to use the Website and our Services. By using the Website and Services, you accept and agree to be bound and abide by the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to the Privacy Policy, you must not access or use the Website or our Services.
Application of Privacy Laws and the Definition of Personal Information
Organizations engaged in commercial activities in Canada, including Jointly, must comply with the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (“PIPEDA”) and “substantially similar” provincial legislation.
Personal information is broadly defined in PIPEDA as any information about an identifiable individual, which includes information that can be used on its own or with other information to identify, contact, or locate a single person. Such personal information may include an individual’s name, birth date, mailing and residential addresses, e-mail address, telephone number, Internet protocol (IP) address used to connect your computer to the Internet, username or other similar identifier, billing and account information, and any other identifier that may be used to contact the individual. However, personal information does not include business contact information including your name, position name or title, business address, business email address, and business telephone or fax numbers.
1. Collection and use of personal information
You can access our Website without providing personal information. If you choose to use our Services, contact us with questions, or sign up for our communications, we will ask you to provide personal information. The personal information that we request will vary depending on how you choose to interact with us.
When you create an account
If you choose to create an account, we will ask you to provide your first name, last name, email address, and province of residence, and to create a password. We may also ask you to provide additional information to help us determine which of our Services is most suitable for you, including your gender, date of birth, marital status, and general information about your spouse, children, pets, assets, and debts (as applicable). We use this information to create an account and recommend appropriate Services to you. We may also use this information to understand our users and their needs and preferences so that we can improve and develop our Services and our Website and tailor our communications.
To create relationship agreements
If you use our Services to generate relationship agreements or other related documents you will need to provide additional information including: information about your spouse and children, including their full names and dates of birth; information about your employment, self-employment, or businesses, including your income, your partner’s income; financial information about you and your partner; information about your health; information about your wishes for the future with respect to children, life plans, and property division; and any other information that is relevant or necessary to generate your relationship agreement. We only use this information to generate your relationship agreement and related documents. Some information is optional and can be skipped. We strongly recommend you and your partner prepare complete lists of your property and debts. This is done via a worksheet you complete outside of the Site. You will not upload these lists to Jointly and you do not need to provide them to us to generate a relationship agreement. You will attach these worksheets to your relationship agreement after you have generated it from the Website.
To process payments
We use a third-party payments service provider to process payments on our behalf. Our provider collects your name, billing address, and payment card information (card number, expiry date and security code) in order to process payments on our behalf.
When you contact us or provide feedback
If you contact us, we will collect the information you provide to respond to your question, inquiry, or request. If you choose to provide a rating or review, we will use this information to improve our Service or our Website, or to develop new Services, and may use it to advertise the Service.
To send you communications
We use your personal information to send you communications including tailored marketing messages and transactional emails. You can unsubscribe from marketing communications at any time by using the unsubscribe feature provided or by contacting us as described below. You may still receive transactional emails from us even if you have unsubscribed from our marketing communications.
We also use personal information for other standard business purposes such as maintaining records, enforcing our agreements, detecting and preventing fraud, ensuring the security of our Website and meeting our legal and regulatory obligations.
